Launching Chinese Toolbox FREE

After installing the software you should see a Chinese Toolbox FREE shortcut on the desktop and one on the Start menu. The following shows the Chinese Toolbox FREE icon as it appears on the desktop:

Double-click on the Chinese Toolbox FREE icon, and the program will begin to load.

The program will try to connect to CT Server to retrieve global settings, such as the currently available version of the program. A small dialog titled “Connecting to CT Server ...” will appear while the connection is being made. Usually this appears for only a fraction of a second. Occasionally, depending on your network configuration, this dialog can remain displayed for almost a minute.

When the program is finished accessing CT Server, program data will begin to load from disk. While loading, the splash screen and loading progress bar will appear.

If Chinese language support is not installed on your computer, boxes will appear where Chinese characters would normally appear. This indicates there’s no font on your computer that can display the intended characters. If such is the case see the page, Installing Chinese language support.

The first time you launch the program, a “Chinese Toolbox” folder is created in your documents (i.e., My Documents) directory. The program then copies ChineseToolbox2.dat and ChineseToolbox2.cfg into this directory. Each local account on the computer has its own set of Chinese Toolbox FREE data files.

Ctrl-a is a keyboard shortcut that enables you to quickly switch between dictionary and reader windows.
