Chinese Toolbox 2026 brings the complete reading and learning workspace to the web. It preserves the connected Reader and dictionary experience that defines Chinese Toolbox, then extends it with web-native access, synchronization, touch controls, and an integrated review system.
A complete web application
Chinese Toolbox now runs in a modern browser on Windows, macOS, Linux, tablets, and phones. It can also be installed as a progressive web app, with no separate program download or desktop installer.
Reader and dictionary parity
The first goal for Chinese Toolbox 2026 was parity with the original Windows application. Its Reader, character and word dictionaries, parsing, Known and Need-to-Learn states, search, lists, document analysis, and dictionary personalization are all part of the new application.
Integrated learning and review
The Learning Counselor uses reading activity and learning states to suggest a practical next step. Guided recall sessions now provide review inside Chinese Toolbox, where study remains connected to the characters, words, and texts you have read.
Accounts and synchronization
Signed-in users can continue across devices with synchronized documents, learning states, notes, custom dictionary work, exclusions, frequency data, preferences, layouts, and activity. Local use remains available without an account.
A flexible workspace
The Reader and dictionaries can be moved, resized, snapped, layered, and restored on larger screens. Themes, responsive layouts, and dedicated touch controls adapt the same reading patterns to different devices.
Modern data and portability
Current character and word lexicons support richer source information, pronunciation systems, variants, radicals, components, custom words, and editable fields. Import and export tools make it practical to move texts, lists, notes, and personalized data.
